Our Impact Marketplace Story

David Simms, Managing Director, Impact Marketplace

In the spring of 1984 my wife and I were standing in a farm field in Guatemala, where I understood for the first time the power of business to accelerate Christ’s commandment to love God and love our neighbor. I decided to devote my life to serving the poor with sustainable, finance-driven solutions: not just to make those living in poverty a little less poor but to partner with God in His work of redeeming the world and spreading the hope of the gospel.

Over the decades I’ve learned if we want to end extreme poverty, we need to support small & medium enterprises, with both capital and capacity. This is something microfinance could not do, but something impact investing, bringing both debt and equity to the table, can.

I’m excited about the journey ahead and believe we will see great fruit from this Kingdom impact investing movement.

David Simms is Managing Director of Impact Marketplace. He is married to Kim and has two children. He went to the University of Pennsylvania, undergrad and Harvard, J.D., MBA with distinction.
